The From Coalfield To Battlefield project came about when my partner Gary was thrilled to be approached by the DLI Research and Study Centre, who asked if they could use his song 'The Durham Light Infantry' in a travelling exhibition about the history of the regiment. Having originally recorded the song with his band the Whisky Priests in the 80s, he felt that it needed an update lyrically, so he re-recorded it with the Ferryhill Town Brass Band and the result was a fantastically moving yet uplifting version, which you can listen to below. One thing led to another, and more songs were written, culminating in a four-track EP (also available to hear below), a live performance in front of an audience of DLI veterans and local dignitaries and song writing/art workshops in schools which we  hosted together. All of this required and very much inspired the artwork and videos you see on this page. I feel there's still more to come on this subject.
